About this Costume
Construction Details:
Since Hakuouki is linked by historical references, I wanted to make the cosplay as accurate as possible. I spent quite some time researching the proper pattern of men's kimono. I also asked my friend, who is a kimono expert, for advice. The kimono is all made out of crepe. I liked the texture of linen and thought it would be a great fabric for a black costume that would be worn in summer. But I gave up on using linen because of how wrinkle-prone it is. The scarf is made of satin because I wanted something with a little sheen. I also watched some iaido videos on Youtube and practiced a few moves because I didn't want to swing the katana like an idiot. But sword practice was tiring since I'm not left-handed like Saitou...
Personal Thoughts:
I'm very late into Hakuouki but I think I may just be as obsessed as everyone else with this fandom. Saitou is my favorite character, but I never had the confidence to cosplay as him until after Katsucon where I first attempted crossplaying.
