About this Costume
- Construction Details:
-
It had been a while since I'd made a magical girl costume and I forgot HOW FREAKING TIME-CONSUMING THEY ARE. Not necessarily difficult, but there are so many details and you just forget that all takes a lot of time.
The costume was made primarily out of Casa fabric, a mix of crepe and satin. The bodice was pretty tricky to pattern, and I actually wound up cutting it too small (I would've just re-cut larger pieces but AUGH Joann's had discontinued that shade of yellow and I couldn't find a good alternative. ;_;) It sort of worked out, since Madoka is drawn rather, well, flat-chested.
In order to get the ombre effect for the over-skirt, I painted it with fabric spray-paint (which is kind of my new best friend.) Still need to paint those little designs on each petal.
Everything else was pretty straight-forward. Like I said, just really time-consuming! - Personal Thoughts:
- Like everybody else, this show gave me a lot of feels. ;_; I was so shocked and moved when the "big reveal" about Homura happened - I always appreciate a well-written love story, and the story between Madoka and Homura was quite powerful.
I do feel a little bad because I really had to bully Makoto into being Homura, but I didn't want to be Madoka without her.
