About this Costume
- Construction Details:
-
I wanted to give this costume more of a ceremonial/ecclesiastical kind of feel, so I started with the bodice, which is a linen completely covered with sequins, beading, couched silver cord, and embroidery, depicting Irisviel's falcon. The bias tape trim has all been handpainted with a script-like design, and edged with couched gold cord. The sleeves were filled with two layers of buckram and made separately so they could each pack flat. The rest of the dress is made from peachskin, with some silk organza insets in the second layer, and a bamboo dobby lining (because that stuff is super soft, anti-microbial, very pleasant, and Ashley had some extra).
The dress and sleeves attach to a corset, which supports the whole thing.
The veil was made with 120" wide chiffon. I stitched horsehair braid into the hem, and trimmed it with individually cut and tea-dyed diamonds from some horrifically ugly fabric, and stars from a venice lace trim. It attaches into the wig with magnets. - Personal Thoughts:
- I'm so done with all white costumes you guys.
Wig Details
- Styling Notes
- I wanted a medium length, straight wig with no bangs as a base, and The Dude worked well enough. I added some extra length in the front by sewing in silver and ash blonde wefts, and around 5 feet of extra length in the back by sewing wefts to some mesh, and clipping that into the back of the wig with hook and eye tape. Though it's a monster, it's more well-behaved and easier to manage than an actual 6 foot long wig would ever be.
- Wig Review
- I don't love the arrangement of wefts in the top of the wig, and the wig lace seems to irritate my skin pretty badly. I wish there were more bang-less options from Arda I could take advantage of.
