About this Costume
Construction Details:
The dress was made from the wrong side of a gorgeous taffeta I found at Joann's. I wanted to keep the shine my first version of the dress had, but with a better fabric. I loved the sheen it had and it had a nice weight to it. I think it almost singlehandedly inspired me to re-make the costume.

I'm proud to say the dress is fully lined. during my 2012 costumes I challenged myself to line everything I possibly could and all that practice paid off. granted this was a pretty easy garment to line - looking up how to line a sleeveless garment really helped - but it turned out so well that I can't help but be proud of it. I re-used the zipper from the original dress - mostly to save a couple bucks, but it was a nice little homage to the original cosplay. I wanted to put pleats in the skirt to stay true to the original reference material, but I didn't really like how they looked. aaaaaand I wanted to finish the dress more quickly. it was a simple garment but the sheer volume of the skirt required hours of pinning to construct it, iron it, and attach it.

the petticoat was made using the same pattern as the skirt of the dress. I cut and stitched together several pieces of tulle, then hemmed the entire thing with ribbon bias tape made with my bias tape machine. nothing difficult, but extremely tedious... much time spent pinning while watching re-runs on Lifetime. In the end I used about X yards of ribbon. it was a lot of work for what was probably a small detail - one hidden under the dress no less - but it gave the petticoat a more

the hair clip was made from craft foam painted with gesso and acrylic paint, then covered in Mod Podge Dimensional Magic - a cheap, quick-drying substitute for resin. it did cause the paint underneath to crack, so it doesn't look as clean as I would have liked. I think I prefer resin.

I specifically bought new, more accurate shoes for this costume - fortunately I found them on clearance at Target. The straps were made with
Personal Thoughts:
this is the second version I have done of this costume. the first was in the fall of 2010.
