About this Costume
Construction Details:
The Jacket: The jacket was perhaps the most difficult part of this cosplay. I had first wanted to make it but I did not have the time or the money to invest in good quality wool... I settled for a jacket bought online as it was a deal I really could not afford to miss out on. The jacket is a 1946 Ike jacket from the post-WWII era which I've temporarily altered to fit me. It was a size 34S, which was a close fit -- but not exact. So I've taken it in in multiple places by hand (to preserve the integrity of the jacket as doing anything to permanently alter it would pain me), in the shoulders, back, sides, and sleeves, in order to allow it to show off my shape and not hide behind it.
The Skirt: The skirt was a lucky find at my local Value Village. It was quite large when I first bought it so I had it taken in and hemmed -- a custom fit skirt is quite a lovely thing...
The Shoes: The shoes I found on vacation in Warsaw, Poland -- I had been shopping around for a pair as close as I could get to hers for quite some time and then all of sudden the were right infront of me in a shoe shop halfway around the world... go figure!
The shirt and tie I had previously owned and simply put darts in the shirt so it wouldn't bulk up underneath the jacket...
The accessories: The SSR Pins I bought online and the buttons for the jacket were bought at a local sewing supply shop.
Personal Thoughts:
Okay so this one took forever as I hmm'd and haaw'd about how to construct this cosplay: did I want to make it all by hand? Could I afford to buy replica pieces to go that extra mile? In the end I decided on a good combination of both with a few lucky finds in consignment stores and while on vacation in Poland...
One of my most favourite Halloween costumes by far and hope to bring her out again at a number of conventions in the near future ~ C:
