About this Costume
- Construction Details:
-
Main materials used: Brocade (Red/gold fabrics), Taffeta (brown), lining material (red underskirt, not often shown).
Time to complete: Approximately 3 weeks.
I used Simplicity pattern #4092 for the dress and underskirt. While the pattern called for panniers, I used a three-hoop hoopskirt purchased from Gentlemen's Emporium due to time and material constraints. - Personal Thoughts:
- The story behind this costume is interesting. It was originally a costume I made for the Labyrinth of Jareth Masquerade Ball in 2012, but when I was introduced to Rose of Versailles, I found it had some things in common with some of the simpler gowns in the series. This was my first costume, and it was fun to make, in spite of the work.
Wig Details
- Wig Brand
- Gothic Lolita Wigs
- Wig Name
- Princess Collection - Princess Ariel
- Original Color:
- red
- Styling Time
- 4-6 hours (over several days)
- Wig Quality Rating
- 4 / 5.00
- Styling Notes
- Originally, I used this wig as it was from the package, without any additional styling. However, I eventually found it was getting too tangled-looking and straggly with repeated uses. I curled it on sponge rollers and used maximum hold hairspray to crate much sturdier ringlets.
- Wig Review
- A good wig, but it will require some maintenance/restyling if you use it for a costume.
