About this Costume
- Construction Details:
-
I ended up ordering the outfit online (I know, I am *evil*!). The wig was made from an Arda Malinda that I cut, styled, spiked and then glued into shape. As Will had completely outgrown his ninja shoes, we made do with his "chanklas" ie. his slip on sandals, since I didn't have time to order them and have them get to us in time for ACen.
- Personal Thoughts:
- This was pulled together on somewhat short notice. My son had given us the ultimatum that he wasn't going to cosplay Naruto anymore and he'd grown out of his old costume from when he was much younger. My husband was really disappointed that they wouldn't be cosplaying together, so my son finally relented. This left me scrambling to find a costume!

- Styling Notes
- I trimmed the wig about 2 inches longer than I wanted the final product. I then used a whole lotta Got2B in the fireman's can to spray individual spikes into shape. Once this was done, I set the wig aside for 3 days to think about it. The spikes had begun to sag w/humidity, which got me worried. I did some online research, and ended up using Fabri-tac craft glue (from JoAnn's fabrics) to glue the spikes at the tips. This is an excellent solution! The glue is waterproof and flexible, so the wig still has life and we can wash it if it ever gets funky.
- Wig Review
- This is an amazingly thick wig, just made for spiking up! Be warned though, that the shorter you cut the spikes, the harder it is to style them. Additionally, even with the voluminous wefts in Arda wigs, the wig still looks a bit thin in the back after all the styling. My son's natural hair color is dark blond, so this didn't pose too much of a problem, but might if your hair is dark.
