About this Costume
Construction Details:
Starting from the top, I razored in layers to a silver-white wig to give it a more boyish cut, bought the red scarf and grey tee (the jeans are from my wardrobe), made the chest and back pieces out of foamboards covered with masking tape and painted to look metallic (with pleather straps), molded the shoulder and wrist armor out of Wonderflex, made the giant gear on my back with foamboard and thick ropes (which are actually bird toys!), sewed the belt out of pleather with wonderflex buckle, made the kneepads out of soft foam topped with Wonderflex, and modified a pair of brown boots with painted craft foam and Wonderflex bits. The Cael Hammer prop is made out of a dollar-store broom, foamboard, masking tape and paint.
Personal Thoughts:
I don't think I have ever been so excited to make and wear a costume since I started cosplaying. Bastion is an excellent game that really deserves all the awards and praises, and the artstyle is so vibrant and cute.
Being a short person with a huge head, I think I am a pretty good physical match for the main character, the Kid. I spent about 2 months making the various part of this costume, learning new techniques and using new materials in the process, and finished it on time to wear to Katsucon. Even though Bastion is an indie game, my costume was recognized and I am so happy to meet fellow fans of the game. :)
