About this Costume
Construction Details:
The raised gold details on the outfit were made by cutting pieces of craft foam into the shapes that i wanted, then using 3m super 77 to adhere gold vinyl on the top, and moleskin spandex on the bottom. These details were then carefully cut out and stitched onto the outfit using a zigzag stitch. The claws are made of wood, and then a wonderflex design was added onto it. Around 120 scales were cut using the wonderflex, then attached to the top of the claw covers, then the smaller designs were attached along with the designs in the back. The minor raised details were drawn on using 3d fabric paint. Then this was primed twice, then painted gold initially. Then a blue and silver mix of acrylic fabric paint was used to color the blue, and a rust colored acrylic was used to slightly tarnish the cover. A slight purple coat was placed on the blue feather looking pieces in the back by misting dye onto it and letting it dry multiple times. The handles were made of aluminum to keep the piece thinner, and attached to a wooden handle. The butterfly on the sash was also cut out using wonderflex, and it was done by layering the butterfly wings together. This was then primed in gesso twice, and painted gold twice. The hairpin was actually also created with wonderflex, then the parts painted in gold were primed in gesso. The purple, and gunmetal parts are actually colored using nailpolish. The bracers were made of craft foam also, but they were adhered with a purple fake suede fabric, then the edges were carefully gesso'ed twice, then painted gold twice. Each bracer had around 4 plates each that were carefully stitched together, then stitched onto a metallic silver spandex glove piece to stay on the arm. The Shoulder Pauldron is also made of craft foam, but then it was adhered to a black wet look spandex material. The raised designs were also done with craft foam covered in vinyl and spandex. The pauldron and the raised details were then carefully glued together using 3m super 77, and button snaps were stitched to the base of the pauldron, and the shirt to snap it into place.
Personal Thoughts:
Very annoying to make... so very annoying... but so very comfortable lol.
