About this Costume
Construction Details:
his is my Vampire Hunter D cosplay based on the novel version of it. I like how it had a more western feel to it. I would say it took me about four months to complete since I worked on it off and on during the college semester. This was also the first time I have ever made a hat and also use spirit gum and liquid latex for my ears and left hand. Fabrics used: 4-way stretch black matte vinyl was used for the body suit, hat and chaps, suede for both the outer layer of the cape and scarf, cape lining was a black pleather fabric with a swirling type print. Cape:Used a pattern to make and added my own collar with thick interfacing. Added the stretch vinyl and buttons around the collar. Gloves:I made them to outstretch along my knuckles and added extra vinyl pieces with interfacing for the raised areas there. I sewed in clear plastic straps around for each finger to keep them in place. Scarf:I cut out stripes of dark and light purple, then white suede which were individually sewed together. This probably took the longest part and my scarf ended up being over twelve ft long in the end..^^;. Pendant:Made out of oven bake clay, painted then I put resin over it to make it harden and shine. Shoulder armor: The horns were made from oven bake clay and the rest was craft foam which was backed by ribbon on the inside to make stronger. I filled in some of the areas with hot glue then painted and put some silver rub and buff on. I rubbed in some black paint to make it seem more battle worn then I covered them both in resin. Orbs:More oven bake clay was used for these along with the black paint and resin. Hat:I altered a fedora hat pattern to make this. Foam core was placed inside the brim to keep it from being floppy at all and was adjusted just a bit to curve in the front. It worked perfectly~! The hat decoration was a round mirror in which I painted and added rub n buff to. I put paper clay around the edges and craft foam on the back before I covered it in resin. Sword:Work in progress Muscle suit: I made an under body suit in which I attached the green plush foam of cut out muscle shapes to. Since I was wearing 4 way stretch, it was outlined through the bodysuit. Left hand: He was sculpted first out of oven bake clay, then I made a mold of which I was able to add multiple layers of liquid latex to. He was attached with spirit gum. Ears: I bought demon ears which I altered and applied with spirit gum.
