About this Costume
- Construction Details:
-
Initial construction reflects the time it was created (2002), which meant it was pretty early on in my sewing skills. Every time I wore it, I tried to bring it up a level. When I took a crack at it recently, it was a bit of a Frankenstein...nostalgic, but in need of pulling apart and redoing. Everything in this costume was made (and re-made...) from scratch, aside from the tights and boots, including the wig, which took the bulk of construction time. The wig itself is pretty heavy as it's entirely made of yarn. A lot of hours of measuring out the lengths of yarn went into its construction. While I improved upon its design for subsequent commissions, I was loath to mess with my original. I've gone through three different iterations of the bow, so there's been plenty of trial and error.
- Personal Thoughts:
- This was so much fun. ^o^ I love my wig, even though it took me months to sew all of that yarn. -2011 update- This costume was one of the first I ever created. I wasn't crazy about Chobits as a series, but I felt really strongly drawn to something about Yuzuki's character. As a result, I wore this costume a few times and each time I took another crack at improving the costume. It was definitely a huge nostalgia kick to come back to it more than half a decade later and look at my old stitches, the cringe-worthy Frankensteining of my improvised improvements and knowing that back then, I was doing the best I could.
