My take on cosplay is that you should try to make it as realistic as possible. Use fabrics that people wear in everyday life (AND STAY AWAY FROM POLYESTER SATIN!)--and if that means I have to lower the hem of a skirt 2 inches to make it proportional to my body type then so be it. I also believe that you should never rush a costume. There will always be other cons and you can always reschedule photo shoots. But you can't get back the money and 200+ hours you spent on the costume when you accidentally iron a synthetic fabric on too high of a setting, melt it and not have enough fabric left over to remake it (yes, I was stupid enough to do that. But luckily I DID have fabric left over).
