About this Costume
- Construction Details:
-
This costume was made for METROCON's Fantasy Masquerade's melee fight, where we combined it with The Sword Card. I drafted the entire costume on my dress form...and it was a pain. Yeah....and it was not totally done yet...you can kinda tell in the fighting pics (the weird not-fight-friendly extensions on the gloves and boots are floppy and the "pillows," as I call them, are non-existent. And there are white diamonds missing from the boots. This was all amended by AFO9/2008)The reason that the dress part is shorter than the actual card is that it had to be fight-ready, this is also the case for the extension thingers on the gloves and boots. This also makes this costume surprisingly comfy! The sword in the fighting photos is real combat-ready Carbon Steel made by the craftsmen of Baltimore Knife and Sword (baltimoreknife.com)
- Personal Thoughts:
- For my first time using Lycra, making boot covers, making gloves, drafting anything this complex for anything that is not a doll (and even then!), and styling a wig, I feel pretty darn good about it! I'm a little miffed that the plastic stabilizer for the left glove broke before Megacon 2011 (when I debuted with the full makeup), so it was droopy the whole con. I do, however, know how I am going to tweak the gloves and the boots later on when I acquire more white lycra. :D
