About this Costume
Construction Details:
This is probably the simplest thing I've cosplayed in a while, and I had two whole months to work on them so they ended up looking really clean on the inside; every seam is neat and serged, it has rolled hems and most of the top is hand sewn to look cleaner.

I made an underskirt out of leftover off-white lining fabric and eyelet lace. It's basically a circle skirt that zips up on the side and has lace on the bottom; I topstitched the lace so it wouldn't curl up. The anime design sometimes has one and sometimes doesn't, but I decided to make one anyway since I like the way it looks and it adds a lot of fullness to the skirt.

The skirt is almost three yards of blue polyester pleated into 1.5'' wide pleats! Because the pleats are topstitched and it sits on my waist (which is obviously a lot smaller than my hips, where the topstitching stops), I had to add a really nasty-looking dart on one side... I always end up running into this kind of problem when making pleated skirts and I'm sure when I find a nice solution I'll feel stupid, but I haven't figured it out yet. Like the underskirt, it zips up on the side and has two snaps on the waistband.

The base top is more or less the same pattern I used for Yukako, but with a few extra inches so it looks blockier, and long sleeves. The poofy sleeves and cuffs are probably my favorite part of the outfit!! It's made of the same blue polyester as the skirt and some white bias tape, and I didn't bother lining it because I knew I'd only be wearing it in august. I patterned the collar, facing and collar flap myself because the collar is very large and rounded compared to what I usually see and make. The facing and collar flap are hand-stitched in... I have to admit I was lazy and the flap is sewn on both side instead of having snaps. Keiko's collar looks a lot nicer than Botan because I ran out of interfacing between the two and just couldn't find one I really liked even after three tries. Instead of making a triangle scarf I made two ties that are handsewn directly on the top. The tie holder closes with two snaps so I can control the shape of the scarf. There's also a triangle in the back, sandwiched between the base top and the collar, so unless you lift up my collar it looks like a pretty legit triangle scarf. The bias tape is uneven as hell but I'm not redoing that collar again I HAD TO MAKE FOUR OF THESE

I used my Machi socks and Yukako shoes for this because I'm cheap as hell.
Personal Thoughts:
After wearing different Kurama outfits for three cons in a row and not getting tired of it I figured I might go for a different character this time! Mukuro is actually my favorite female character, but I wanted to save her until I had a bigger budget and a Hiei to cosplay with again. I've been trying to get my friend to cosplay Botan again so Keiko sounded like a fun, cheap cosplay to do. This was also the first time I made something for someone else to wear (Botan's uniform), so it was a fun experience overall!!
