The most tedious and difficult thing I have made so far in the past year and a half of costume-making… I think. Not to mention it made it even more challenging when I only had 7 days to do everything from scratch (including the patterns… I didn’t have any!) and make a Zero outfit for my boyfriend too! Somehow I did it, and I’m pretty proud of the way it turned out. I have the fanbook in which the manga artist meticulously draws out all the details of the uniforms, so I was really excited to make them, but then all the details turned out to be somewhat burdensome since I knew I couldn’t do everything in time XD I made the entire thing from black twill fabric, and the white lines are white twill tape. The rose buttons were ordered from eBay and were originally bronze, so I had my boyfriend spraypaint them silver. I was about to give up on the spikes since, for some reason, I had the most difficult time thinking of what I could use, but then we found some packs of assorted acrylic gems at Hobby Lobby and bought like 3 packs of them since there are like 30 spikes total for each uniform >.< This uniform was difficult because of my time constraints, and I couldn’t think of an efficient order to make the different parts of the uniform… so I kept messing up and resewing multiple times. I had an especially hard time figuring out the cuffs for some reason. The pleated sides of the girls’ jacket were hard too, and that didn’t come out very well. I also had to simplify the pleated skirt for Yuuki too. The night before I needed to get the costumes done, I superglued all the spikes on both costumes and they were fine for a while, but then so many of them fell off during the con… so sad ;_; Anyway, it was a challenge, but definitely a fun one, and I got a lot of compliments so I’m very happy! :)
