The school uniform jacket was made from broadcloth and edited from a 3/4 sleeve tunic pattern, which originally closed in the front. The aqua-blue was picked as a mid-way point for color (in some shots her jacket is pure blue, others it's TOO green). The Bloom emblem pattern was drafted from scratch using references from the manga, anime, and light novel illustrations, and all trim was made with satin ribbon. The white dress was made using a simplicity sewing pattern and added a detachable collar to allow the dress to be re-used, and was made from satin-silk mix. The tie was cotton and made using a pattern found online, edited to have the square bottom instead of the traditional triangle. The sheer mantle (snowflake cape under the jacket) was made from silk organza, and cut using a lot of eye-balling on myself for placement and a no-sew vest pattern. The snowflakes were hand-painted on using a custom stencil. The snowflake clip was made using oven-bake clay molded by me and glued to a bobby pin.
Personal Thoughts:
This is probably one of my favorite cosplays so far. Not only did I sew every detail myself, but it was the first time I worked with different materials in the same costume! For my sewing level at the time it was also very challenging, and had a deadline for a costume contest of just 2 weeks! I am also glad I finished the cosplay shortly after the Mahouka anime started airing, so some people who do recognize Miyuki get excited to see someone representing the series!
