Cosplayer Arlette > Costume of Darkwing Duck from Darkwing Duck
About this Costume
- Construction Details:
So, how to cosplay my favorite cartoon character of all time, who is a talking male duck who wears a mask and cape?
I decided to design a feminine humanoid version, turning his coat into more of a short dress, and then I tried to get the point across by colorizing my legs with white tights and the same yellow "boots" I made for Kitty Pryde. The ridiculous hat is all interfacing with material sewn straight onto it, though the part where my head goes is made of foamies covered in fabric. I wish I could say that I've had that gas gun toy since the 90s, but alas I had to buy it on eBay. It was a cereal box mail-in. I ate so many Cornflakes to get the little Darkwing Duck miniature figurines, though...
Anyway, the cape was just sewn together with no pattern because I'm becoming a champ at making them, and I made it just long enough to cover my ass since that dress came out REALLY short. The "buttons" are cut out of thick foamies and painted by hand because he only has four to hold together his entire jacket, and I wanted them to look cartoony. The jacket actually closes with Velcro all the way down one side, which also helps it hold the flared shape.
- Personal Thoughts:
- If wanting to be an anthropomorphic duck is wrong, I don't wanna be right.
Super special thanks to my Forever Bros for being other members of the Darkwing Gang with me. :)
