About this Costume
Construction Details:
Mononoke Hime was the very first Miyazaki film I ever saw. I fell in love with it and watched it several times when I first got the DVD. I'd always wanted to do a cosplay of San, but I always felt like I couldn't do her justice and so just kept pushing her aside. Luckily, my friend Mindy wanted to cosplay as Lady Eboshi and asked if I'd be San with her. It made me so happy, I started looking around for materials right away!

The wig is an Arda Inigo wig in Spanish Brown, that I cut and styled. The headband and armbands are some rope trims that I braided together.

The necklace sports giant teeth pendants made from aluminum foil as a base and covered in Fimo clay. I sanded them a bit to smooth them out, and strung them with some black oval beads.

The fur I used for the cape is a Mongolian Shag fur. The cape is double sided for extra luxuriousness. (And it's super comfy!)

The dress is an uncut, dark purple corduroy. It simply slips over the head. The neck and arm holes are reinforced with hem facing, and the bottom is slashed to bits with scissors. The apron is made from a faux linen and lined in muslin.

The boots are just boot covers I made from suede to slip over a pair of flats and tie around the ankles.

The knife was borrowed from my awesome friend August Fehrmont. :3

Wig Review
I absolutely love the Arda Inigo. It's a perfect length and thickness to cut and style into almost any short hairdo. The scalp with the crimped hair is so well done in every Inigo I own that I don't even miss a skin top.
