About this Costume
- Construction Details:
The outfit itself is built around a black bra that I added some lace trim and velvet ribbon to. The pleated fabric for the dress was a lucky find in downtown L.A.; it even has the gradient on it, like in the artwork! Since you can't see the bottom of the dress, I made up my own design. I gave it a black "petticoat" portion that peeks out from the bottom, trimmed to match the bra up top. The ruffles on my wrist and ankle were sewn from chiffon, layered together to achieve the right shade of lavender. The ribbon tie closures on them are false - they overlap and snap shut. The shoes I purchased online, and the trimming on them - again, lucky! - matches the black parts of the dress. I took what I could from the image to design the fingernails; they're pretty crazy! They were painted with a color-shift bright purple enamel, then encrusted with Swarovski crystals, cubic zirconas, anodized aluminum roses, and purple glitter. They make picking things up quite an adventure. The microphone was made with a section of wooden dowel, craft foam, and thick metallic gold pvc. The most interesting part of this costume is definitely the wig; I bought both a gold and a pink wig, cut them apart, then resewed them together to acheive the two-tone gradient effect.
- Personal Thoughts:
- Super cute, and it's a dress I could actually wear out at night! Also you can't see them in the photos, but my ridiculous platform pumps have been nicknamed my "Eat Dirt" shoes. You get one guess as to why.
