About this Costume
Construction Details:
This costume. THIS COSTUME. Between me and Minakokitty, we both worked on Lina and Naga for the past month to be ready in time for NYAF. Except we weren't ready in time for NYAF. XD I'm not sure exactly where we went wrong. It might have been when we decided to work with leather. Or when we decided to use a different method for armor than the usual tried-and-true. Anyway, we were working up until the last possible minute and there is still a lot to fix/change/finish.

I was in charge of most of the sculpting, which means on my costume I made the front silver plate that holds up the armor, my bracelets, and all the gem settings. I also made the yellow wrap and cape, as well as the hand-embroidered headband and the sword/sheath. I also did the paper mache base for both pieces of armor, and the wig was styled by me. Minakokitty did all the resin gems, hand sewing and eyelets on the blue undershirt (which is all real suede), and the main coating that finished up the shoulder armor. She also made the awesome red pants, which are amazingly sewn and have a working fly.
Personal Thoughts:
There are so many little details on my costume that unfortunately don't show, but I know they're there! Like I sewed little brown shiny...things...through the belt that holds up the sheath to add detail, and there are little gems on the sides of the main wide belt that are covered by the yellow fabric. But I put them there even knowing they would be covered by the yellow fabric. Because I'm dumb.

There are a few things that need to be improved upon before wearing again. The mounting situation that keeps the armor on, and the attachements for the cape, are the two main things. The cape is HUGE and really heavy so I kept kinda losing it. We finally just had to safety pin it around my neck with two pins. And I still lost it by the end of the skit! I also lost the wool off the tops of my gloves before we went on, but at that point I didn't care too much. I'll have pics with the wool eventually. I think I'm going to switch it out to fake fur, though, even though everything else on the outfit is "real," simply because it would be easier to deal with (and clean.)

We're currently still working on hand-made boots for my outfit, made out of the same leather as my sheath, but they didn't quite make it to the con. Someday this costume will be super epic, but right now it's only mostly epic. XD P.S. I have the words "Amelia x Zelgadis" worked into the "runes" on my headband. Thank you.
