Cosplayer Angel Kryzzt > Convention History > Comic World Hong Kong 2014
Report / Summary

Being at my first Hong Kong event it was very interesting. It's a bit like hybrid between USA small cons and Japan events.

Everything was held at a metro mall with a convention hall room first floor and second floor. Which was badged by stamp on the wrist. The process was pretty easy and normal. People sold things at tables which was mostly only Doujinshi and art like Comiket. There were a few Dealers and Bandai was there exhibiting new toys coming soon. (I really was excited about that. XD)

For the cosplay it was main reason why I called it a hybrid. There were a portion of people who are social and take photos with/of you. The thing that made it different was cosplayers would bring their own suitcases and find a wall to settle at. Getting dressed and putting on their make up. After that they stand around for photos or take photos with photographer who also stationed around. Some only take photos with their own photographers/friends. But they weren't as strict like Japan where people had to line up for photos. You just ask for photos and usually they will be ok with it.

To my surprise was that many of the cosplayers don't do anything but stay there all day. That is only a portion though, many are a bit surprised when I chased them down for photos haha. And there was a massive amount of male cosplayers in Hong Kong compared to any other events I've been to.

Some people I met there were very nice though who took photos of me. Some gave me gifts too which was something I don't see in America.

Another big thing that I never seen before was a lot of other cosplayers and younger attendees didn't carry cameras and all they do is take selfies with other cosplayers. After that they add you on facebook and social networks which was pretty cool. I had cosplay cards to hand out and most of the other cosplayers did too.

Just like anywhere else there was the portion of non social cosplayers who did their own thing. So it was interesting to see the dynamic. I had a great time shopping for myself and friends there. It was pretty overcrowded to really shop the whole time but I finished about 75% of it. Cosplay photos were difficult to do because of the constant shooting the cosplayers were doing or they were still getting ready for a few hours in the same spot. But I did what I could with the cramped area of 4 floors of people sitting near walls.

If there is another Hong Kong event I would probably do it again since I did like the good feel some people gave me haha. Now onto Katsucon!
