About this Costume
Construction Details:
White peachskin satin made up most of this costume, including the sleeves, skirt, and bra. I dyed sateen-finish cotton for the pinafore piece that fits over the white skirt. The armor is all craft foam with gold acrylics; the same can be said of the base of the staff. The head of the staff is EVA foam sanded on the edges and to remove its corrugated texture. Then I painted it with acrylics as well.

Subaru's defining three sets of wings for this costume were the first wings I've ever made. The wings in the wig are wired to a headband that is itself worked into the netting of the wig to add stability. All my wings are chicken wire, covered with quilt batting, which proved to let light through nicely. For all the wings, it took over 2 pounds of white turkey rounds, which I trimmed to look more streamlined.

The large wings at the base of my spine have PVC "bones" along their top edges, which provided structure for the chicken wire frame, and which allowed them to be hooked into a harness that affixed underneath the skirt and pinafore. They can pivot out and slightly up. Overall, I was extremely happy with my wings' sturdiness, especially for a first time, and I know I'll be making wings again in the future. I really enjoyed it.
Personal Thoughts:
I liked Subaru's character in .hack//SIGN and I really found myself attracted to her design in //LINK, since it added to the "angel" motif she has going. I've been wanting to make wings for years, so it was time to give it a shot, and I'm pleased with the results.
