I'm going to try to make Tohru's dress from Fruits Basket... links:

I'm trying to figure out what type of fabric I should use... So umm... if anyone know of fabrics I should use to make this dress please tell me ^^;;

*shudder* That dress is very frightening..lol

I'd just use cotton. There's lots of bagginess in the sleeves and you need the malleability of cotton.

I would just say make sure it feels soft...Tohru's dress looks like it would be soft...

I took one look at that dress and said "brushed silk." Of course, there's almost no way you'd be willing to spend that much on a cosplay. If there is, can you send me some of that money? :wink:

In the realm of possibility, I'd use a very light weave cotten (broadcloth is a sin) or, if you can find some fabric with that lace/cutout pattern on the edge that she has on her sleeves/top/ect. (I think I saw something like that recently) I'd just use that.

and i'd imagine that if you have any asian stores in your area, or a chinatown or japantown, that you could find them there.

Or really, just any black mary janes would do.
