someone who knows their shoes, help!

Post by Mei Long » Sat Apr 23, 2005 7:47 pm

i feel kind of bad about asking, considering this should be an easy task, but i've looked all over and i can't find the right color at all!!!
i'm looking for some men's beige boots, but this color just seems to be no where! i would greatly appreciate any help that can be offered. *bow*

here's an image:

everyday i wake up, look in the mirror, and wish i hadn't woken up at all... but then i really wake up and find it was a dream... then i go back to sleep because it's 3 in the morning and i have finals tomorrow. love my life.

Have you tried looking for loafers instead.

Or you can sew fabric on top of a pair of shoes to get the right color and the fit of the shoe compared to shoe socks.

If you don't like hand stitching you can always opt for hot glue just spread it thin and don't use too much. It will hold for one wear then you will have to do fix ups later because glue is not permanent.

You can also try super glue just know once you glue it you can't undo it so be very sure with your cut out.

example of altered shoe.

thank you so much for your response. i wasn't sure how to go about it, and i didn't know if glue would work. just out of curiosity though, how would you go about sewing the fabric to the shoe? how would you cut the fabric to match? (measurments and such).

to get the shape you will have to have to make a few mocks with newspaper. wrap a piece of newspaper about the size of your shoe and get an indention then cut out around the lines. then try to estimate with that shape how much fabric you will need. I suggest trying a few newspaper cut outs before trying the fabric.

I also suggest you make seperate pieces for different areas of your shoe. One piece for the top two pieces for the sides and one for the heals. do the sides first then over lap the top piece over the side pieces to create a finish look and for the back of the shoe too.

You would hand sew with a leather needle if your shoe is leather or thick otherwise a blanket needle will do. If you don't know needles by name go for the longest and thickness needle you have.

You would sew around the edges and glue towards the bottom. Remember to fold in the excesses.

Thank you so much, I believe I understand now! :-)
But just to make sure, when you're speaking of "news paper cut-outs" you are talking about a pattern?

That is correct you are making a pattern for your shoe through a very unscientific way of measuring, known as draping.

Just wandering, if i do have any more questions... say i burn my house down while doing this (don't ask how, i probably could unconsciously find a way), could i call on you for help again?
