Marvel Cosplay - What do you guys think?

Given the recent rise in cosplay and 'geek chic' do you guys feel as if cosplay has been changed by Marvel releasing new films and merchandise since Iron Man in 2008?
I am doing a study on fan culture and Marvel for my thesis at University and I would love to have your opinions on why you got into cosplay and if Marvel and DC comics or a love of any type of series had anything to do with it?
