I'm doing my first costume for a con and I need some help. I need to know how to make (or find) a round Captain America-type shield. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Try fiberglass? Using rigid insulation foam, resin/ epoxy method? There are several tutorials online on how to do this.

http://fiberglassblades.com/ isa a good site with a similar tutorial. He doesn't make shields from what I know but the method can be used for shields. But this is if you want a super awesome realistic shield. ^^ The thing is, this method might be difficult if this is your first shield-making try. But I'd go for it! ^^
