Help with code geass cosplay

[Zero the dark prince]

I want to cosplay as Zero, but I am not sure what to use to make his mask. Do you think a fencing mask would work?

Do fencing masks open and close? It would probably make a good base for this character and probably give you some versatility in being able to lift the front to see better or just to catch a breeze if you start to get hot.
