Guru Clef needs a staff! Help!!

I'm cosplaying as Guru Clef from Magic Knights Rayearth. I can handle all his jewellery, but I need help with his staff. It's kinda massive, and I have no clue. I've ruled out paper mache, so I need and idea as to what materials I can use.
