Sound Four/Five Cosplay Question! (ROPE OBI CONST.)

Post by x_Alainya_x » Wed Nov 23, 2005 11:44 pm

Alrighty, I hope to try and get a costume together for Tayuya from Naruto's Sound Four/Five.

I'm an ameture cosplayer. I've only done it a couple times before; and those costumes were thrown together in a couple hours. Meaning I was lucky to have some of the important materials already done in clothes that I wear every day, with a few minor alterations. I have a basic idea when it comes to sewing and such, so I wouldn't worry much about that. Money isn't much of a problem. I would like the ideas to be cheap, but not shabby.. you know?

Anyway, I need help with the large obi/rope around Tayuya's waist. I've seen a lot where it seems people just kind of wrap a pillow around their waist and go, but it just doesn't seem very reliable to me.

Here are some screetshots. They're not that good, but you'll get the idea.

So, any ideas on how to make that purple obi/rope?

Buy some Really large rope and a hot glue gun. Make the shape, don't tie it. Take the hot glue gun and warm it up for about 5 sticks.

Take a cut about 1 foot off the rope and wrap it verticly around where the nought should be, then lather that sucker up with the hot glue so the shape holds.

Go to get the rope to hold stiff, take some Hangers, and either feed it into the ends, or use the hot glue gun and hold the wire parallel with it.

After that, spray paint it, if you want to, and you can actually make a small clip in the front much like a belt, and hide it.
