need help with a Rainbow Randolph costume, please

I'm looking to recreate the costume worn by Robin Williams in Death to Smoochy. I'm looking at purchasing a three piece, white suit that is 100% polyester. I have never really cosplayed before, but I understand that polyester can be difficult to dye. Does anyone know if I could get away with fabric spray paint or another alternative? Thanks for the help!
