Legend of Dragoon Cosplay

Post by mrfirehawk86 » Sat Feb 13, 2010 2:53 pm

Hello all. I'm new to cosplaying, but I enjoy it very much. However I don't really know how to make the stuff I want and can't afford to pay a professional. I'm looking to cosplay as one of the Dragoons from The Legend of Dragoon (old PS1 video game) this summer at Otakon. I haven't decided who I'm going as yet, but it's between these three:

Dart

Lavitz

Kongol

I want to make the whole costume; wings, full armor (chest, legs, arms, boots), headband, and weapon. The wing's don't have to be the same material as the armor, nor do they need to be as durable. I just want them to look realistic.

As you can see from the pics everything is quite complex. I don't even know where to begin. I wanna make them lightweight, high quality, and semi durable yet realistic looking. I've been researching different armor making techniques, but I could definitely use more help. Any advise or links to in-depth guides would be greatly appreciated.

That cosplay is really up there on the difficulty scale. I can tell you that there are different methods, but you've got to have a lot of time on your hands, some artistic sculpting skill or pattern making idea to get it right.

material wise, some options:
foamies
paperclay
super sculpey
liquid latex
resin (http://www.tapplastics.com)

If you want it to be super durable and great looking, You're looking at, at least 100$ worth of supplies and couple of months of labor.
