Help! How do you make petticoats?

Haha.. yeah i have no clue how to make petticoats. i'm making a Dark/Light Chii costume

(i'm doing the Black One) and i was hopping someone knows how to make short petticoats but not huge 'muffien' ones.

i'm aming for this --->

if anyone has any ideas it will help out a bunch.

Have you tried going to your local fabric place and checking the pattern books? Usually in the costume section they'll have something on petticoats, I'm sure if you found something you could adjust it to what you need.

Yeah i checked already. most of the petticoats are ankel or knee high. i might just have to get one and alter it but i want to see if i can make it in an easyer way before i go out and grap fabric and patterns....

Get some sheer black fabric (for this project I recommend organza because it is stiff and will require few layers for that amount of poof). You want to figure out how many layers you need in the petticoat (probably 3 or 4), and then take your waist measurement and multiply that by (3/2)* the number of layers, plus a couple inches for seams. Then basically you make a multiple-layered pleated skirt. However, you use box pleats instead of knife pleats and you make them large. Also don't sew down the folds on the inside. You want it to be very loose pleats so it looks like ruffles. Then just sew the layers together and add a waistband.

Fenicia, that petticoat has a wonderful look! I have some questions though. "Fishtreat" means the plastic string used for catching fish, right? What thickness did you use for the example in the pictures, and how did you feed it into the hem? I've always wondered how to make a frilly hem like that.

Yep, it's that kind of string and the thinkness I use is 0,9mm if it needs to be very stiff and 0,6mm if it's not so stiff. I feed it into het rollhem will I'm sewing it. You can see it in this pic (but you cann't see the treat in the pic as it invissible for my camera
