I'm going! Not *exactly* sure what costumes I'm bringing, but I have some ideas for some Christmas-themed modifications.
I'm definitely bringing Winter Belle though - there aren't enough opportunities to wear her. :)

I'm definitely going now that I live in Dallas!

Not sure exactly who I'm going to bring (depends on who I have done by then) but probably:
- Princess Peach (Smash Bros Brawl version)
- Queen of All Cosmos (Katamari Damacy)
- Sailor Mercury (Sailor Moon)
- Chell (Portal)

Fray Check. It comes in a small clear bottle with a blue cap.
Works great on most fabric, but test it first to make sure it doesn't stain.
You can find it at most craft stores near the pins and sewing things.

There's an awesome wig seller on Ebay who I've purchased from - her handle is zhenna0036 . If you can find her auctions (rather than the "Buy it Now" listings, she usually sells the wigs very low, but charges high for shipping. I believe mine was $2 for the wig, $19 for shipping. Altogether, though,...

My suggestion is to look for a pattern that's shaped about the same as the dress you want to make. Look at wedding and prom patterns especially. For something that goes out at the bottom, you're going to look for a dress that's fitted along the body, then gets much wider at the bottom. So your patte...

How about a Legend of Zelda contest? There are a lot of games in the series, and it's gained new popularity w/ Twilight Princess's release. There are a lot of characters, too.

I can't help you with Zelda or Sheik, but I do have a pretty detailed tutorial I wrote about making the parts of a Link costume. You may wish to pass this onto your Link friend.

If you want to post pictures, you first need to upload them somewhere like a Photobucket or ImageShack account. Most free webspace (Tripod, Angelfire, etc) don't allow hotlinking. Once you've got your pictures online, click the Img button and paste in the link to the picture you uploaded. Remember t...

I've had good luck with a spray paint called Fusion. It's designed for sticking to plastic, so it should work better than standard spray paint which might rub off. I know they make Fusion in a light sand color.

If you think about it, most anime is simplified for ease of animating. Adding extra detail can usually make a design stand out more than if you had done it plain. If you had left something off, it would be noticeable. Adding a design to the fabric makes it more realistic.

Do you plan to wear the mask, or just carry it? If you're carrying it only, using a wooden heart would work. But if you plan to integrate it with your costume, I'd suggest starting with a blank mask form (either adding to a half-mask or cutting away from a full face mask). If you're going to wear th...

Well-known or obscure?

Do you prefer to cosplay as well-known or obscure characters? Well-known characters are quickly recognized, but you may not have a unique costume. Obscure characters may not be known by many people, but your costume is the only one of its kind at an event.

Which do you prefer?

I would think a Rod is a short magical staff - somewhere between a walking stick staff (like Gandalf has in Lord of the Rings) and a small magic wand. Since you could use a Rod for either casting magic or as a melee weapon, it's a bit more sturdy than an ornamental scepter. I've only played the orig...

Mustaches?

Before anyone asks, no this is not for me. My husband is making a Luigi (Of Super Mario Bros. fame) costume to go along with my Princess Peach, and we're stuck on how to make a realistic Luigi mustache. Any tips on making/purchasing a large dark mustache? We'd also need eyebrows since he has light h...
