The blazer is actually surprisingly simple *mine was a day class one though* I just drafted a pattern for a regular blazer and added extra width from the bust down and took them in for the pleats?

Well, it depends...what are you making the jacket out of? I don't think vinyl/leather/pleather takes fabric paint too well (and it's very difficult to paint a lighter fabric paint on a darker fabric --> need a lot of layers)~ You could try fabric paint and that's definitely the most straight forward...

Just use fabric paint, I use one that is about $0.99 and I works really well ^^"

Be sure to have at least two brushes: a large one for even strokes and a smaller one for the edge (it helps the design to look sharper and more accurate)

I would recommend...I'm not sure what it's really called, but it's labeled "dance wear" at my fabric store. It has a bit of shine to it and is stretchy enough for this project. Well, cosplay costumes have rather different look than normal clothing, so it is the process of altering an existing pattern or make a new one to use as reference to cut the fabric that may be a bit challenging --> at least for me it is ^_^

Actually, I would just recommand having the zipper in the back and sewing the two panels together in the front and sew on the buttons (with no holes). That way, the zipper wouldn't show because of the red jacket over and it is just much easier...
