Jo Ann's is usually good for that kind of foam, but that looks too thin to me for 1/2" foam.
It'd probably take less time to make that freehand then to modify a pattern.

This is what works for me, I know very good cosplayers that do things completly diffrently. 1. When I first started, I found that the best way to figure out costumes was to go to the thrift store, find something that kinda was the right cut, spend $5 on it, and rip the thing apart to see how it was ...

Depends on what you're willing to put up with as far as weight goes and whether you're wearing a wig. Lightest option would probably be foam, connected to you (and an appropiate harness) via a plexiglass rod. If you want something more durable, and I would, I'd go with a vaccum formed plastic stick ...

Eh, for me, the only way to make those well is to use metal. A lot of the unoffical ones that use plastic look off. Not all, mind you, just many. If I were making one, I'd take a thin sheet of metal (probably flashing, but that's because I've got a roll just sitting there) cut it out, engrave the sy...

Did you try adding color yourself? Sounds like you're pretty skilled and expirenced with this stuff. Gods, I wish. I've never even seen vaccum forming done before. No, the problem is that this isn't the kind of plastic I'm used to using. I usually use polyester resin, which is sold in liquid form. ...

Heh, actually, mail order is probably the only way I'm going to get this stuff. Plastic sheet like this is usually used to make things like bowls, patio furniture, bathtubs, and storm trooper armor. 8) However, the source the nice sith who told me how to make the equipment to make this kind of armor...

Need a plastic source
I'm about to start trying to work with vaccum forming (building a vaccum table is a lot easier then I had thought) and I'm trying to find a source of small lots* of colored ABS and/or polystyrene sheets. I found these guys but they don't seem to sell colors, and I really would perfer to not have to ...

You might try inquiring at a furniture manufacturer to see whether they have what you need or can order something for you. Probably not the best idea. While most upholstry fabric is 60", it's also a great deal heavier then clothing fabric for the most part. The stuff Jo Ann's sells is very light fo...

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm... Well, there's the hard way, which involves building a lattice out of your favorite material (steel, wickerwork, cardboard) and covering that with felt. I don't really think that back cape piece is practical without either ruining the line of the dress of a speciality metals shop. lightest I can figure that being is about 30 pounds, assuming hollow foam build, and most of that would be weight pulling away from the body. Omeasan! I thought what might be good is to make a oil based clay mold of the armor and then fill it with water based plaster and then paint it. It is just I thought I am not positive of the results. okay, Miroku's staff is one of my pet peeves, so I'm going to expound on it a bit. First off, the head peice is about the size of your hand. also, I used sealed foam alot (I dont know how useful it'll be for a gunblade though) its just regular, annoying foam, but there's a product out there called foam finish that you coat the foam with, and it makes it hard and paintable. For my money, plate metal armor is best made with, well, metal. Sheet aluminum is expensive, but looks a lot better then foil or paint. Taking a Dremel and etching out the embossed cross would make it look almost perfect, though expensive and very time-consuming. Resin-casting the entire plate might...
