About this Costume
Construction Details:
Bodysuit:
nI made an upper bathing suit style suit from leather look spandex at the sides and textured synthetic leather for the front and back. It zips up in the back.
n
nPants:
nThe pants are the same fabrics as the upper portion. The textured synthetic leather is quilted with batting to create that ridged look Mara had in many art forms.
n
nBelts and Straps:
nI used some brown vinyl I had lying around. I used this for the belt, shoulder harness and arm straps.
nThe belt buckle is made of real leather, covered in silver spandex and hooks into the belt for a closure.
nThe harness has a gold ring in the back that all the straps loop around.
nThe arm straps are sewn shut and have a silver dome rivet in them for decor.
n
nHood & Cape:
nI used some random cream color knit for the hoot. I sewed it into a tube, French seaming it. Its overall shape is like a wide circle scarf. It pulls up over the head and the black goggles I had on hand help keep it in place.
nThe cape is just a straight cut of micro suede that quite literally safety pins at the neck. I had to make it looked as unfinished as possible.
n
nGloves, Knee Pads, Boots:
nTe gloves are my winter gloves. They are real leather.
nThe knee pads were re purposed from my Sonya Blade costume.
nThe boots are just a pair of random black boots I had. They are comfy, that's all that matters.
n
nWig:
nThe wig is a shoulder length, layered, auburn wig I bought from another cosplayer off Storenvy. Not sure what brand the wig is, but it's a skin top and can be parted any way. It's super easy to style and really suits this character.
n
nFor a last minute costume (took me less than 3 days to throw this costume together) I'd say it turned out pretty nice.
nThe saber I am using is friends; it's a Hasbro Black Series Vader saber. Mike (EleventhPhotography) just put a filter over the photos to make it appear purple like Mara???s Saber.
Personal Thoughts:
The fact I have no Star Wars costume in my gallery slightly alarms me. I have been an avid Star Wars fan since I was a young child and the fact that princess Leia and Padme both have extensive costume galleries, I should have done about half a dozen costumes from the series at this point.
nI do have a few Padme costumes WIP going, but the first to get done and photographed is my Mara Jade. I made this costume on a whim believe it or not. I was invited to take part in the annual Santa Clause Parade as part of a Star Wars float and had to come up with a costume. Originally I wanted to make Rey from Force Awakens, but that was already taken, so I decided Mara Jade would be the next easiest option.
nI didn???t buy any fabric for this specific project; I had spare fabric and scraps that I utilized to make this costume possible.
nI know the character is technically non-existent now that Disney dismissed Expanded Universe, no one will forget who Mara Jade is for a long time to come.
