About this Costume
Construction Details:
When starting this costume one of my biggest focuses was the color choice--obvious right? But, harder than may appear. My goal was to not only find fabric choices that were accurate, but also vibrant and "popping" on film along with the rest of my group. We basically wanted to be an unavoidable "light-bright" when we performed XD

The costume itself was simple as far as basic construction. The jacket was from a "throw" pattern that I drafted my own sleeves onto, and then lined with a fabulous gold champagne brocade. The skirt is not a skirt. It is nicknamed the "glorified bath towel" among my friends because it is literally..a glorified sewn/lined/painted rectangle that wraps around my hips and snaps at the side to leave an open gap for Mina's armored left leg. Yet, despite its simplicity I am very proud of it. It is fully lined with the gold brocade, and cotton trim on the inside with red hand painted trim on the outside. The outside was completely drafted and hand painted by myself. The costume has over 10 hours of hand painting just from the skirt alone--all of the trims, ornaments, jewelry details, and spear were hand painted as well.

The boot covers were once Jessica Simpson flimsy, suede boots that I stuck dowels in to give it the "rain boot" look, and covered with the white cotton solid, and then trimmed with green bias. Painted gold foam ornaments attached to the side.

This weapon is the first I've EVER made, and for being my first I'm pretty happy with it. It is constructed using a dowel for a base, foam board, insulation foam, craft foam, and styro foam for the ornaments. THEN OH THEN: The paper mache. Layers upon layers! All too messy--all too fun! Hand painted with metallic acrylic and modge podged for extra shine.
Personal Thoughts:
I have been wanting to cosplay Seung Mina since Soul Calibur 2 when I was in high school! She's my favorite character, and I'm so glad that I finally got the chance to get to make the costume. I learned a lot along the way including how to use foam for various ornaments/armor pieces as well as making my own weapon. This costume got me out of my comfort zone, and pushed me to learn different techniques !

The experience of wearing this was all the more fun with my cosplay group at my side as we debuted the rest of our Soul Calibur costumes. Love you guys!
