About this Costume
- Construction Details:
-
The entire costume (mask and body - top and bottom) are hand-sewn butter suede. The patterns used to create this were from pieces of thrift store acquisitions used for tracing. The back is held together with velcro. The heart is cut and fabric-glued. The wings are, for all intents and purposes, sleeves made from lycra. The pattern for them was drawn from memory; measured, cut, and hand-sewn. They are attached at the sides of the body and behind the shoulders. There is an "escape hatch" created by flipping the wings over my head to the front. The mask is a wire hanger frame with a hand-sewn hood on the inside to aid stability since the weight of the ears would otherwise cause it to fall forward or backward. The eyes are drawn in. I see and breathe through the mouth, which is sheer fabric.
