About this Costume
Construction Details:
Lots and lots of hand-stitch embellishment. Oh man. Lauren and I went all-out with the embroidery and visible stitches on these costumes. I think my embellishment took an entire season of "Greek" to finish. Is it bad that I measure times by television series? The smock is made of monk's cloth, and this was my first foray into "controlled fraying". I also got to dye the cloth for it myself, and managed to do so without making a huge mess (kind of a rare occasion). My favorite part is the bloomers, which are su~per poofy. The pom-poms are all hand-made with soft and wonderful alpaca wool, and barely survived being in the house with three cats. The shoes. Oh, the shoes. Lauren and I have a running joke about "cobbling our own shoes," and Eternal Sonata is one of the reasons why. We spent a lot of time taking apart thrift store footwear and making new patterns, then finding effective ways to attach fabric to soles. Result: most comfortable shoes ever. These are cotton outer and interfaced with a lot of fusible fleece, so they're cushioned and warm <3 The adorable elf ear headband is a purchased accessory from Cosworx to which I added Salsa's accessories.
