About this Costume
Construction Details:
All I can say is, as crazy as I think quilting ladies are, I have gained some respect for them. Quilting is time-consuming and for this project especially, I had to be very precise. Geometric shapes and I never were super best friends, but Howl is one of my favorite characters. I originally made a joke Howl costume in 2005 for Halloween, but it was low effort. My redo here was much more successful and accurate. I used a combination of sateen and broadcloth. It's lined with taffeta and despite swearing off horrid elements of 80's fashion which I subjected myself to back then, I did indeed put shoulder pads in the jacket. It just looks better that way. The wig is my Mithos wig. Not ideal, but not so horrible either. Messing with the bangs was the most trouble but the length and color worked quite well. As for his jewelry, well, I've been making jewelry sets and selling them on eBay and in my store since 05' so that was not a problem at all. The white shirt is heavy stretch cotton. My mockup looked a bit different than the final result, but overall I am pleased with the results. It was based off of a men's renaissance shirt pattern, which also required taking in the seams. Black pants are black pants. Who doesn't own a pair of black pants?! I just wore some that I owned. Same deal with my shoes, I wore some heeled dressy shoes/boots and was set. All the pieces were quite simple to draft patterns for and for this I am thankful. Now... to actually get decent pics of this costume. Hm.

Styling Notes
This is actually the wig I used for Mithos, minus some of the bangs swoosh. I actually made them detachable.
