About this Costume
Construction Details:
Dress BOdice:
- The main light pink portion of the dress is a Kaufman linen blend from fabric.com. I bought 11 yards and used probably 10 ahhaha xD
- The bodice of the dress was hand drafted by draping on my dress form and the sleeves traced off of an existing pattern because I'm terrible at drafting sleeves. It's an 8-panel bodice with an invisible zipper closure in the front.
- The eschelle is formed by tubes of white cotton in varied lengths that are hand-sewn to the front of the dress along the seam line.
- The bow is a long strip hand-tacked into an S-type-deal and bound with another piece. It's secured to one side of the white trim and snaps onto the other side to act as a closure.
- The white trim on the neckline and sleeves is just white cotton.

Skirts:
- The main skirt is four trapezoidal panels sewn directly to the bodice at the waist. The flower petals are cotton applique. I forgot to bring my heat and bond with me when I was working on this (out of town for work orz), so they are hand-tacked and then satin stitched into place.
- The first underskirt is two layers. The bottom layer is a half-circle with appliques were done in the same fashion as the main skirt, bringing the total to 13. The top layer is a triangular piece. The edging on this panel was done in another color of cotton and hand-finished. It was sewn on backwards so that all of the raw edges are sealed. These layers were serged together and gathered into a waistband which closes with a hook-and-eye. This skirt piece is a separate layer from the dress.
- The piping on the main skirt and circle layer is more linen, serged around piping cord. The piping and ruffles were serged to the edge of the layer. See ruffle section below for construction.
- The other two triangular layers were done in the same way as the first. They are gathered to 1/2 of my waist measurement each, and serged onto a waistband made of the magenta cotton. The waistband has a pair of hook and eyes that are laced together. The bow pieces are extensions off the waistband.

Ruffles:
- All of the ruffles are double layer: the upper is white cotton and the bottom is magenta.
Personal Thoughts:
Where to begin! First of all, if you're unfamiliar with the show--go watch it. It's beautiful and has an amazing soundtrack.

Styling Notes
There were a few rows of wefts added in to the back to add a little more fullness, and then the wig was curled using the boiling water method. The front curls were done separately and spiral in opposite directions :) The wig was put into a loose half-ponytail to keep the bangs back. An extra weft was added to make her wispy bits, which were curled around an empty thread spool and set using hairspray. The whole thing was sprayed with Motions Oil Sheen to help reduce tangling.
Wig Review
Epic is usually my preference when it comes to wigs, and this time was no exception. The fibers held curl really well.
