About this Costume
Construction Details:
The main dress is made of blue wool suiting and white denim. I patterned the upper part of the apron into the dress so it would remain in a fixed position. The lower part of the apron is also sewn into the waist line of the dress for the same reason. Only the waist band of the apron is tied onto the costume. For the sleeves of the dress I used interfacing and tulle to give it their shape. The skirt portion is a cut down circle skirt and has two layers, the white under skirt layer and the top blue layer. I do wear a light petticoat under the skirt to give it a little more shape as seen in the game. The symbols on the pockets are cut out of black fabric and heat-n-bonded to the pockets. For the bow in the back I too interfaced and stuffed it with tulle to help keep it’s shape. I didn’t have time to make the accurate skull for the bow, so a halloween skull prop was cut and half and used instead. The most enjoyable part of this costume was to make it all bloody and dirty! I used acrylic paints in red, brown and black watered down mixture used a dripping paint brush to create the splatter effects. I also went over the edges and other parts of the dress with burnt ember acrylic using a dry bruch technique to give it some grime. To add a personal touch I purchased some butterflies, painted them in epoxy resin and attached them to the dress. I always loved the way the butterflies appear when she dies or jumps and I wanted to recreate that element on my costume. The socks were purchased on amazon. The boots I purchased and sewed the straps and belts onto them. Wig is a lace from Sepia in 1B from Internationalwigs.com. Necklace was purchased off of ebay.

The blade for this costume I felt were just as important as the main dress. I worked closely with IceMan Props on the Vorpal blade. He constructed the blade with the filagree details, while I did the handle details and paint job. The baby doll was a lucky find at a halloween store. To make it even creepier I added blood, grime and the screws to mimic the dolls seen in the art work and certain levels of the game.
Personal Thoughts:
Alice has been one of those costumes that I’ve been meaning to do for years. After a few years, I finally sat down and made it in an evening.
