About this Costume
Construction Details:
The jumpsuit is a combination of 2 patterns, for the leggings I cut apart a unitard that didn't have a front center seam (they were on the inside of the legs and back), and for the top I used Kwik Sew 3104. Sewing it all together wasn't too bad once I had everything patterned out with proper seam allowances, but the hardest part was doing the yellow contrast on the front of the top. I tested it out on scrap fabric first to make sure I could get the clean lines I wanted, plus I wanted to make sure I didn't waste any of the fabric as it was kinda pricey! I wanted a yellow zipper with metal teeth for detail, originally I wanted to try using my serger but I lack the proper foot attachment, so instead I used Wonder Tape and sewed it on my regular machine. I've had a roll of this stuff in my notions stash since forever, I'm so glad I finally remembered to use it because it made sewing the zipper so much easier! The jumpsuit is a bit awkward to put on because of the zipper being short, but I didn't want it to cut into the waistband. Style over functionality, right? ^^; The final touch for the jumpsuit is the '13' on the back, using stencils. I did 2 base coats of white fabric paint, 2 primary yellow acrylic paint/fabric medium, and 2 additional coats of a lighter yellow so it matched the contrast fabric as closely as possible. Since I wanted to wear my jumpsuit partially zipped, I modified a tank top into a leotard with a thong bottom and snap closures at the crotch.
Personal Thoughts:
I like Fallout. A LOT. I've also dragged Varnani into this mess, and this is the first time we've collaborated on a costume set before?? The first of many, I'm sure. Anyway, we worked together so our costumes would be as matching as possible, even though I kept my patterns to use as a base, sizing them to fit her was interesting. HOW DO WE MATH. 8D;; I know we spent a good chunk of time just staring at the patterns trying to figure out wtf to do ahaha.
