Cosplayer Mage > Costume of Cersei Lannister from Game of Thrones
About this Costume
- Construction Details:
- I wasn't sure what sort of closures this dress had, so I had to make some educated guesses based on on-set photos, some screenshots from the episodes, and another dress of a similar cut that Cersei wears during another scene.
Converted my dress pattern to a wrap, extended the collar and changed the sleeves to an open rectangle.
Made custom piping, hand-sewed the facings throughout the dress as well as hand-finishing the lining. Pattern-matched as much as possible for both the dress and the waist-cincher. The waist-cincher zips closed in the back, underneath the centre back plate. Armour constructed of Wonderflex and attached with butterfly clips through buttonholes in the waist cincher.
Wig was a stand-in (my Geomancer wig taken out of the braids) as I didn't have time to order the correct one.
This was completed pretty last-minute for the con and I'll need to fix up the armour attachment before I wear this again for photos (you can see the middle panel had already separated in the photos from the con).
- Personal Thoughts:
- Ever since on-set photos of Lena in this dress were released, I wanted to make it. Cersei's one of the most interesting characters in the books and I love the way Lena Headey and the costuming department bring her to life in the show.
I had really hoped that they would bring the Iron Throne back to FanExpo this year, but unfortunately, it wasn't to be! Some other time.
Best part of wearing this costume is that neutral bitch-face actually works for it.
