Cosplayer qnng > Costume of Touko Fukawa from Dangan Ronpa
About this Costume
- Construction Details:
- Based the uniform top off a Cosmode pattern insert from a sewing book I have, but modified the sleeve pattern to be a one-piece sleeve with continuous placket instead of a two-piece (seriously why tho). The skirt was patterned by myself.
The body fabric is some strange heavyweight twill with a sheen I ordered online. It came in as an olive brown and I tinted it with scarlet RIT dye until it matched the weird mahogany shade in the art. The collar and cuffs are made from white twill, and the white bias tape was made from sateen. The brown bias tape is made from the body fabric.
The uniform is really quick to put together once all of the bias tape detailing is done but the bias tape took forever. The bias tape on the top is all 3/8" and the bias tape on the skirt is 1/4", all made by hand. The bias tape was hand basted to each piece to ensure that they wouldn't shift when topstitching, which meant 4 yards of hand basting on the skirt... It was painful but I really like how it turned out in the end. The welt pocket on the breast is a real pocket! It doesn't really hold much since it's small. I also did some hand finishing on the inside of the top, blindstitching the facing on the inside to the underside of the collar. The symbols on the sleeves are all embroidered by hand and it took around 2 hours to complete.
The skirt has about 28 pleats on it give or take. Each pleat is 1" wide so there were a lot of tiny snips and marks made to pleat the whole thing. It took about two hours to pleat and it was terrible because the skirt was so long that I had to pin each pleat in multiple places, but I really like how it looks in the end! The zipper is hidden inside a pleat fold and the waistband is a lapped waistband that closes with a hook and eye.
- Personal Thoughts:
- Touko is a cutie and I've been wanting to cosplay her since 2011, I'm glad I finally did it even though this costume is ridiculously hot to wear.
- Styling Notes
- Not too much styling with this wig, just cut the bangs down and sprayed the curl into the side. It's a pain to braid properly because it's so long though and it tangles disasterously even when it's in braids.
- Wig Review
- The braids are a good length to hit people with. This wig also weighs about 2 lb and requires a ton of pins to stay on my head.
