Cosplayer Anijess3 > Costume of Mahiru Koizumi from Super Dangan Ronpa 2
About this Costume
- Construction Details:
- Because Mahiru's design makes it look as though she's not wearing a jumper but rather a vest tucked into a skirt, I tried to emulate that while making the two pieces actually one just for convenience sake. Getting the vest to fit right was a pain, but pinning the skirt to the vest by myself was just a nightmare.
Also, this fabric was much, much greener before the fabulous Starrys dyed it for me. Now it looks much less like Christmas when paired with the bright red wig.
And that gingham for her tie. It was a pain to find. But it was found, and I thank the nice lady on ebay so much. And because it's gingham, I couldn't make the tie properly on the bias like it should be otherwise the pattern would be skewed... so it's cut on the straight of grain and you gotta deal with it!
- Personal Thoughts:
- For a rather simple design, this costume was surprisingly difficult for me to accomplish. This is the first knife-pleated skirt I've ever made, and while I used an existing vest pattern for the top of the jumper, after I altered it so much, it just didn't want to fit correctly no matter what I seemed to do. After quite a few tears, I just decided that it was good enough.
Also starch. Starch is amazing and lovely and wonderful.
- Styling Notes
- Starrys trimmed up the sides a bit just so they were a little shorter and thinner. Really not a whole lot, but it made a big difference.
- Wig Review
- This is the first time I've ever gotten a wig from Epic Cosplay, and I am very pleased. Honestly, I could have worn the wig straight out of the bag and it would have been absolutely lovely. The fibers are of nice quality, and resist tangling, and because the cap is not as big as Arda's wig caps is comfortable, and fits very securely on my smaller head. I also really like the way this bob is cut/styled in the back. The cut is of an asymmetrical bob so while it's shorter in the back, there are fibers that taper to a point along your neck so you don't have to worry about concealing your hair. All in all I definitely recommend Epic Cosplay for their lovely wigs.
