About this Costume
Construction Details:
The dress was made using 4 way black PVC vinyl in both shiny and matte finish. The pattern was drafted by me. The silver neck piece was made of thin plastic sheeting and thick wire, and it attached to the dress on the inside via snaps and a few hand sewn stitches to secure it. The black shoes were ones I already owned, and the wig was borrowed from Tranquility. The red scars were created using rigid collodion as a base, then red alcohol activated makeup painted right in the creases with various eyeshadows brushed over the scars to make them look "glowing".
Personal Thoughts:
I adore the Mass Effect series. I decided to make a quick costume to wear at Dragoncon 2012 using scrap fabrics that I had left over from other projects, and came up with Fem Commander Shepard's Formal Dress from Mass Effect 2 during the Kasumi Goto DLC storyline meets Nobunaga-chan on DA's rendition of "bad girl" Renegade Shepard. Oddly specific, I know.. but it was all for fun. :) The dress that I made ended up being a bit more form-fitting than I had anticipated, so I added some Renegade red face scars and red contacts fashioned after this fan artwork. I got to take photos with Mark Meer, the voice of Shepard and Rana McAnear, the face model of Samara. My costume might not have been the best, was kind of a last minute rush job, and I probably won't wear it again, but it was a complete blast.
