About this Costume
- Construction Details:
- The hoodie and leggings are jersey spandex, with elastic for the purple stripe on the leggings. The hood of the hoodie is lined with the same material. I carefully lined up the stripes so that when I sewed the leggings together it would make that continuous swirl on the one leg, and the horizontal stripes on the other. The skirt is a midweight satin heavily interfaced and accordion pleated so that it would look like a reese's peanut butter cup wrapper (cause that's what they used as a model for her skirt). The candy pieces (minus the gummy bears, peppermint and sugar hearts) are made from sculpey and painted.
- Personal Thoughts:
- I knew before I even saw the film, I'd love Vanellope and want her costume on my body. She's the type of character I cosplay: spunky and cute who doesn't take crap from people. But her adorable candy-coated hair nailed it for me. I love wearing tons of bows and accessories on a daily basis, wearing candies in my hair? Perfect. So I poured all my skill and time into making this costume, and I'm honestly really proud of it.
Wig Details
- Styling Notes
- I pulled the Jeannie into a higher ponytail. I took the ponytail extension, cut and thinned it down, then sewed it onto the existing ponytail. The candy hair pieces are glued onto the wig/hair.
