About this Costume
- Personal Thoughts:
- I discovered Vocaloid not too long ago, when someone did a Twitter update of Hatsune Miku singing World is Mine live in concert. I immediately became obsessed! I put her outfit in my gi-normous list of "Cosplays I Want To Do Someday But Probably Won't".
But then I heard that she'd be at Anime Expo this year and holy crap, I had to make myself a Hatsune Miku cosplay. SO!!! Here's the costume run down:
I found the shoes at Goodwill and painted the bottoms teal.
I got the over the knee black socks from Hot Topic. (Had to pull a poorly glued ribbon off of it, but whatever.)
The skirt was from the clearance rack at Forever 21, and I added the color detail. The strappy thing is a black belt I sewed some rick rack onto.
The top is a trench coat jacket that my fiance and I gutted and tailored for the shirt.
The arms are the sleeves of an oversized black jacket that we cut off and turned upside down... my mom helped me by adding the elastic inside and lining it, and my fiance added the color detail with ribbon.
The tie and hair pieces are from scratch (fabric and foam). And the wig I ordered off of eBay.. and voila! Hatune Miku cosplay!!
Our friend Sean (the Wolfwood in our Trigun photoshoot) let us use the local community theater stage and lighting for our photoshoot. We were running a bit of a tight schedule so we ended up shooting this set from 1am to 3am!! And then I ate some bad cheese, or something, and ended up being painfully nausous the whole time.. like... I actually ended up running off the stage and throwing up at one point. But I rather like the outcome of the shoot! The low lights kind of wash out the true colors of the wigs and such, but for such an iconic character I figured we could chance the moody feel. ;-)
