Cosplayer Ifria > Costume of Queen Chrysalis from My Little Pony Friendship is Magic
About this Costume
- Construction Details:
- Dress was a Mcalls medival dress pattern, layered twice. Base layer was a light weight cotton with a nice sheen and the top layer was a sheer, synthetic, crinkle fabric.
The top layer was burned with a lighter to get the holey effect and the base layer was air brushed in two different greens for a subtle color difference.
The corset was taken out of a new "steam punk" Simplicity pattern. Base corset was made with a cotton and then strips of gradient green bridal satin were arranged to give it a sort of insect belly look. Lacing in the back was covered with a long trailing pieced of weighted fabric from the same gradient fabric to look like her saddle piece.
Wings were wire wrapped in floral tape and then covered in cellophane and burned to give the tattered effect. The wings slid into the corset for wear.
Horn is Sculpy air dry clay. Sculpted, sanded, painted, and held on by a piece of clear plastic molded to the shape of my head that was glued to a headband under my wig. That way, the horn would be coming from my forehead and NOT my wig!
Crown is Wonderflex and Sculpy. Painted and held on with alligator clips.
- Personal Thoughts:
- When I saw Chrysalis's awesome reveal, I knew I had to make a costume. I ADORE her entire look. While it kills me to step away from Celestia and be a villain, the call of the Swiss Cheese was too strong.
22yds of fabric later, I'm super happy I stepped out of Celestia to be creepy for a day.
- Styling Notes
- Chrysalis's hair is flat and lank, so I just took it out of the bag and put it on. Perfect!
- Wig Review
- Very soft, amazing blue/green color, and SOOOOO much fiber!
